You can actually put 2x4GB sticks in a ReadyNAS Pro.
There is a VGA header on the motherboard as mentioned here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=223230#p223230. Some old graphics cards came with a VGA header cable that works with that header. If you run the "Memory Test" boot option the progress should be shown on a connected display.
