Inaccuracy in Wiki re: expansion

http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/expansio ... aid_volume

says:
The expansion will still occur, but the expansion size will be limited by the smallest disk in the system. When you replace each of the smaller disks to the larger disk capacity, X-RAID will expand itself to utilizing all the space from this larger disk.

This is not entirely true. I started with 1x 1TB, 3x 1.5TB (ReadyNAS Pro Business (6-bay)). I then added a 2TB, and then added another 1TB - shockingly it worked (every volume expanded to its fullest, except the 2TB which was limited to 1.5). Then exchanged a 1.5 with another 2, to do a warranty replacement.

When I got the "new" 1.5 back, I swapped a 1.0 with the 1.5. One more 1.5 -> 2.0, and I have 3x 2.0, 2x 1.5 and 1x 1.0 - all are fully utilized.

So, I'm sorry -- but it is more impressive than you claim!

p.s. I do not see anything in the wiki about the 8TB "max expansion" - is this real? I started with just 2 (3? 4? I honestly don't remember since I did not know it mattered, so I was being cautious!) discs and added them slowly building the array when I upgraded from my NV+ (4x 750GB), so in theory I am very close! New thread, I think.

    That entry in the FAQ wiki was written back in the Sparc days. It is accurate for Sparc systems, but newer models which have X-RAID2 can expand when redundant space can be added.
