I've fallen off the ReadyNAS train!

I just bought a Synology DS-213J. Maybe not one of their 'premier' units, but, this tiny white plastic box has shown me a new world of how NAS can be. I put 2x WD10EFRX drives in it and turned it on. It is now my 'nasd.' Still trying to decide what to do with it. Install was a breeze (thanks to all the 'NAS' stuff I have learned here on the forum). Yes, I do feel a bit like a defector. But, once you experience the Synology DSM sw, it is very easy to just 'cast away down the stream'! Netgear needs to license DSM asap! Frontview is old. Dashboard is not any better. Can not speak to what V6.0 displays.

My new long-range plan is to run my 3 ReadyNAS to failure. Then replace them with Synology platforms. Yes, my 213J has a white plastic case. Fine. It is clam-shelled and very easy to get into should I choose to. I did this once to install 2 drives. Did not unscrew the base to peek/poke the innards. It has a 1.2GHz Marvell 'Kirkwood' cpu and 512MB of ram for the HDW folk. It formatted the drives using EXT4. It came live and stitiched itself into my LAN as 'nasd' without any further BS. Dang!
