Move RN312 drives to RN422 - Can it be done

Just purchased a new RN422 diskless storage unit. Can I move the harddrives from my existing RN312 to it so I can keep all my Shares and Files?

  • Yes you can.

If the firmware in the RN422 flash is newer than what's on the RN312, then it will apply the newer firmware to the disks.

If the firmware in the RN422 flash is older, it will update its flash from the RN312 disks.

With your response I went ahead and tried it.  I took one drive out of my old RN312 and installed it in my new RN422 and powered it up.  It took a little bit, but it came up with all my shares, data, and old passwords.  It even has my old backup jobs ready to run.

Thanks for your assurance it would work, and it did.

You could use backup jobs to backup your RN422 to your RN312 going forward if you like.
