Multiple Drive Failure (Seagate ST32000542AS)
OK, so yesterday I woke up to a nice email telling my one of my drives in my Ultra 6 was "Dead".
Whipped it out, connected it to a desktop PC and ran all the Seagate Disc tools on it, seems to be fine. All passed.
Plopped it back in to see if somehow removing/replacing it would make any difference and started looking at ordering a new drive.
However, upon turning back on, the NAS now complains that all 6 discs are "Dead". I've subsequently tested all discs, all pass on Seatools.
Checked the SMART status of all drives, all seems fine, error fields appear to all be 0.
I turned off the NAS, and back on, now it seems to think that two of the drives are fine, while 4 are dead still. I've no doubt turning on/off a few more times will show varying results. The front panel tells me my drive is "Degraded". The data does appear to be still there and accessible.
So.. it seems fairly unlikely that all 6 of my drives failed within an hour of each other. They weren't all bought at once, some are a few months older than the others though all are Seagate ST32000542AS's on the latest firmware. (CC35 if memory serves).
Anyone know if this is a known issue, either with the NAS or the drives themselves?
It just seems extremely unlikely that all the drives would fail within hours of each other considering they're mostly of differing ages/up time. All have been working fine in the ReadyNas (Ultra6) for the last two years.
Anyone got any suggestions short of binning 6 drives? ;)

- ShamalamAspirantWell... sod it, just pumped for 6*WD30EFRX as replacements for the Seagates. Hopefully that'll resolve any issues for the foreseeable future.
Does anyone know a way to determine why the NAS thinks the Seagate drives are dead while they're still in situ?
Unfortunately they're all just described as "Dead" and the SMART button is greyed out.
