NAS for mixed PC & Mac

I'm looking for a NAS to sit on what will be a mixed PC & Mac network at home ... Be good to get confirmation that this will be OK and what if anything I need to do to ensure both PC & Mac can back up as well as share image and audio resources.
Very new to this, so any advice will be very much appreciated
Thanks

Yes the ReadyNAS will be great for this.

I would recommend using CIFS for your file sharing.

Use Time Machine (http://www.readynas.com/TimeMachine) for backing up the Macs.

Use an application on your Windows PCs for backing up to the ReadyNAS (e.g. QuickShadow, Acronis, Memeo etc.). If just backing up data (not the OS, applications etc.) then you could use Frontview backup to backup the Windows machines.

Which ReadyNAS model are you looking at?
  • Thanks for the quick responce!

I must admit I'm trying to keep costs down, so was originally looking at NV+ ... this is for home, so maybe doesn't need to have the lightning responce of the network at work ... but if there are advantages to NAS boxes further up the range, which would make setting up & running a mixed network easier then I guess I need to consider them

    cheers

The NV+ is a good choice. For a simple to use NAS device I would go with the new NV+ v2 RND4000-200 (released November 13th 2011) rather than the NV+ (RND4000-100).
