NetGear Stora MS2000 Factory Reset
Hi!
We received a Netgear Stora MS2000 NAS for checking it and make a backup of its content. Sadly the Cloud access is now closed, and the NAS only offers FTP, which is not enough for the task we need to do.
If we factory reset it, the data will stay on the disks or its deleted too? Also, how can I reach the content of the disks, if the IP address brings me instantly to the nonexistent cloud address? Does it change after I reset it?

Netgear doesn't engage in this forum, and those of us who do have no experience with the Stora (we all use ReadyNAS). There is an old Stora forum area here:
Not a lot of recent activity, but you probably should posting there.
I am seeing the manual here:
There is some other stuff here (including the desktop application software):
I don't know if the factory reset is destructive or not. The manual doesn't expressly say it destroys data, but it doesn't say it is data-safe either. After the reset, you would need to set the product up again using the software on the resource CD, and that is likely to be a problem given that the Stora Cloud is down. So it's not something I would do.
I believe the disks are XFS formatted. So you could mount them in a linux system and try to mount the volume. Or use recovery software that supports the XFS file system.

Not sure why FTP isn't enough, at least for the backup part. If you can see the files with FTP, I do recommend offloading everything you can before you try factory resets, or putting the drives in a linux system.
