Network novice trying to access ReadyNAS NV+ // Help?
Hello all. I'm a total network novice. I have a ReadyNAS NV+ that is connected to my iMac via ethernet. I have installed RAIDar - which quickly detects the ReadyNAS. When clicking on RAIDar's Admin P...

Don't connect it directly to the computer, put it on your network by plugging it into your router or switch. If there is some reason you can't do that, then you'll have to manually assign a compatible IP address to the computer, one in the 192.168.168.xxx range.
But then you're also going to have to work around the fact that the NAS uses SMB1 and TLS V1.0. You can work around the TLS issue by using FireFox and changing the appropriate setting. But I'm not sure how you work around SMB1 with a Mac.

Thank you Sandshark - I'll try doing that today. It looks like this Mac has accessed a NAS in the past using afp. See screenshot.

Ok. I've connected the NAS to my wireless router. RAIDar sees it - see attached screenshot - with an IP Address of 192.168.0.170.
I clicked on Admin Page and get error messages on both Chrome and Firefox. See screenshot.
Again - thank you StephenB and Sandshark

Yes. Now you've run into the second issue. The NAS uses TLS 1.0 and modern browsers require TLS 1.2.
You can regain access with Firefox, because it still lets you manually configure the browser to use TLS 1.0.
You need to set security.tls.version.min to 1 (browse to about:config in FireFox and search for the setting).
If you plan to use the NAS long term (not a great idea, given its age), then you can manually patch the system to allow http access to Frontview (so you can use http://nas-ip-address/admin with any browser). Details are in the first post of this thread:
Folks using 4.2.x systems or 5.3.x systems have some other options, but the only one available to you is to edit virtual.conf.
The third barrier is that you will be unable to use SMB, because the NAS only supports SMB 1.0, and Apple no longer allows connections using that protocol. AFP should still work (I think Macs still support it).
