New Nas' around the corner?

Noticing the pricing on the ultra's has been creeping downward with various sales here and there. Perhaps new Nas units are on the horizon? Since they were introduced in '10, wonder how long this current crop will be around....

It depends on different factors such as (but by no means limited to):
    1. Availability of parts for the current model e.g. How long will Intel sell the CPUs in the Ultras in sufficient quantities and at good prices?
    2. NetGear's plans to innovate to continually improve their product offerings (they're not going to tell us this).
    3. One can look back at NetGear's past release history: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=231712#p231712. The ReadyNAS Pro (6-bay) was released back in Q4 2008, about 2 years before the ReadyNAS Pro 6, the second gen.

One can only guess as to what might/might not be around the corner. If you need it, I'd buy one of the current offerings. The current products are very good. If you wait you don't know how long you'll be waiting.
  • I've been looking for a ReadyNas too and it might be the right time to get one now, but with new ones in the horizon. Who knows how long we would need to wait.

Ookong price charts for Amazon's ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus has dropped to 872 this week 9/12/11. Seems like a method to clear out the current stock and get a new product refresh in. But it's only Amazon and I haven't searched other seller's websites yet. Still a few more questions about the Ultra 6 plus I want to ask, but I won't thread hijack this one. :)
  • Hmmm - Prices do seem to be down, but strangely, the venerable NV+ is as high as I have ever seen it in recent months at $339.99 on Newegg and Amazon has it for a shocking $438.89 and show 2 used ones for $799.00! That last one has to be a mistake, and even the $438.89 is over the top. Newegg has shown it in recent months for $309.99 but now it is back up.

The last time a major product change was made, there was a significant rebate for months on the NVX (took advantage of it) and then the Ultras came out.
