New RN316 - Network Access is SLOW
Hi! I've been doing a lot of reading on the community forums about slow network performance when accessing shares via Windows Explorer and I'm experiencing the same thing. I've checked most of the solutions I found on the forums, and nothing has helped, but I thought I would throw my question out there to see if you have a solution before I call support for further assistance.
Here are the details of my network setup and additional information needed to help diagnose my issue:
NAS: RN316 Diskless - Firmware Version 6.9.2 - One 4 TB WD Red drive / Four 2 TB WD Black drives (they were moved over from a WD4000X that had NICs die) - 5.69 TB free of 7.26 TB total - X-RAID running on RAID 5 - Bond between both en0 & en1 enabled with Active Backup enabled - Anti-Virus is disabled, File Search is disabled, SMB only protocol on all folders, DLNA also on respective media folders - Permissions wide open, everyone has access to Network Access, File Access is set Owner and Group to admin - ReadyCloud access turned on - Plex Server running.
Main Issue: Accessing and opening network documents such as Word, PDF, etc take anywhere from 15 - 30 seconds before they open. Saving Word documents makes the documents appear to lock up and go to "not responding", then they come back after the 15 - 30 seconds. File transfer speeds are decent, running on average at 10 Mbps both ways. My old Windows Storage Server WD4000X NAS never had this issue, only since I installed this new NAS on the network have I had this issue
Main Wireless Router: Netgear R7000
Secondary Router: Netgear R6300v2 - Being used only to create physical NIC ports, not used as a wireless network extender
PC's: All Windows 10, either Pro or Home edition - All Windows Updates installed - All using Wireless AC protocol with good signal
Here are the things that I've tried to fix the issue:
1. Enable/Disable Bond between en0 & en1, tried several protocols, no difference
2. Permissions - Network Access is open to everyone, File Access set to guest/guest, changed to admin/admin, no difference
3. Plex Server - Enabled/Disabled, no change
4. Verified SnapShot management set to Smart
5. No backups running
6. Logged out of ReadyCloud app on desktop
So, anything I'm missing, or do I need to call support at this point? Your help and time reviewing my issue are appreciated. I look forward to seeing what your suggestions are.
Thank you!

That's actually very slow. Can you try a test with NAStester? http://www.808.dk/?code-csharp-nas-performance
Test it using wired ethernet, not wifi.

StephenB, thank you once again for responding to my request. I stayed up a bit last night to do some troubleshooting of the issue and I started to notice that it was not just network shares that were slow to pull up documents, but also ones I had on my desktop. I redirect folders on my desktop to the NAS instead of having all the files and folders stored locally, I like to keep them on the NAS for safe keeping. When I first setup the box, it grabbed a DHCP address and I had configured the redirects with that address. This was causing the slowness when opening files, so I believe I have resolved my issue.
Thank you!
