NEWBIE - ReadyNAS Small Business environ
I think I'm closer to understanding what will work for us, but I would like any opinions from anyone if you can add...
Small business environment:
Win2003Svr - AD File Server (appx 80GB storage + OS) (older server hardware, a bit slow)
Win2003Svr - FTP(Fzilla)/Webserver(iis)/Email server(Kerio) (20GB total)
Win2000Svr - Voicemail/Fax server (10-15GB?)
Currently, the Win2003 File server has a SCSI tape drive for backups. Using Barracuda Yosemite backup (which sucks balls).
The other boxes currently have NO backup solution.
My thought:
1- Use a RNDP2220 (4TB) as a local backup store.
2- Use a second RNDP2220 at the owner's house and use Replicate to backup the on-site RNDP2220.
My understanding:
Using Replicate, I won't have to worry about configuring a tunnel between the owner's home routers and the office, yes? It will "just work", right?
I will need a Replicate License for each NAS, yes?
The RNDP2220 will not come with ANY backup software clients, right?
I need to still use some sort of backup client on each server, yes? (Can you please make a recommendation? Symantec/Acronis are way too pricey. Bacula? Something else open source or something else really good that isn't Symantec/Acronis $$$$? Need to be able to restore a system too.)
---
Main goal is to automate daily/weekly/monthly backups for safety and have a redundant off-site backup in case of disaster.
Right now it looks like I can buy a RNDP2220 for about $920 or so and teh Replicate license will be about $200.
Is there anything I've missed or am not on the right page?

Correct. The Replicate software uses the same software VPN that ReadyNAS Remote uses.jonas914 wrote:

Yes.jonas914 wrote:

I would recommend Symantec or Acronis. May be pricey but for crucial business data you want something reliable that's supported well. Of course you could give Windows backup a try or try alternative software. - jonas914TutorThanks MDGM,
I still want an alternative to Symantec or Acronis. For $2300 just to have a better file management system, versus using NTBackup seems steep for this tiny bit of data that changes very seldom. A weekly backup of 120GB total data saved for month is about all we really need. I could realistically do it with any network-able disk drive and NTBackup, but I want the ability to replicate off-site.
