The Operating System on the ReadyNAS is based on Debian Linux. You can connect several times the number of clients you have to the unit. There is no licensing per client machine or user unlike Windows. However I would recommend an Intel model (e.g. Ultra/Pro) rather than an ARM model (e.g. Duo v2). If you think you might need more than two drive bays get a 4-bay unit. Using X-RAID2 with say 4x1TB drives you could store 3 times as much data as using 2x1TB drives.
