Only old Harddisks on Compatibility List for ReadyNas Ultra 6
Hi, I only see old harddisks on the Harddisk Compatibility List. For example from 2011 (3TB disks). Why not recent ones? The newest 4TB disks are: Hitachi 7K4000 HUS724040ALE640 - from mid 2012...

Just for anybody who wants to know my experience, I tried two kind of WD disks, and they both work fine in my NAS:
- WD20EFRX (the new Western Digital Red 2 TB)
- WD40EZRZ (the new Western Digital Blue 4 TB)

The Ultra 6 is EOL and has been discontinued for some years now. There will be no more firmware updates for it and we won't be testing any more drives with it (some drives not on the compatibility list might work, but if you run into issues support may be denied).
It sounds like there probably is a problem with that disk. The disk wouldn't fail the SMART test for no reason. The SMART test checks the health of the disk. Disks can be D.O.A.
Have you hooked the disk up to your PC and tested it using WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics?
Btw The WD RED are recommended for NAS use. Why did you choose the WD Blue over these?
You can run ReadyNAS OS 6 on the Ultra 6 but this is unsupported.

Just to clarify - the ReadyNAS doesn't check the disk models against the compatibility list. It is likely your drive was DOA, so you should test it on a PC with WDC's lifeguard to confirm. Or just exchange it (ideally for a Red).
Blues are the "new" WDC Greens - not the same as the Reds. http://techreport.com/news/29251/western-digital-paints-its-green-hard-drives-blue-in-rebranding The Reds might be a bit more, but they also have better warranties.
