Original Infrant ReadyNAS -> ReadyNAS NV+v2 -- Trying to recover files

I own an original Infrant ReadyNAS NV (from way back in the day). It took the preverbial dirt name a few years back; so I tried replacing the power supply as that seemed to be the most obvious option when you push the power button and it doesn't come on. Didn't work, so I put it in a closet and promptly forgot about it; sadly. I'm now trying to recover the files off of the drives in it, which was formated using the XRAID option. I e-bay'd an NV+v2 not realizing that the core processor infrastructure changed between the versions.

My question is this: Is it even possible to get the newer readynas to read the original xraid file structure, or did I just make a $150 mistake on purchasing this guy?

Any help would be appreciated; trying to recover pictures of my first kid that were stored on the old one. Sadly I don't have any other copies except frozen on these xraid drives.

As a follow up, I seem to see that XRAID with 4 drives was using RAID5, would it be possible to bring up the new nas using FlexRAID set to RAID 5 and pop the older drives in?
