OS 6.9.0-RC1 warning about dissimilar drives
One of the drives in my "sandbox" system (Pro2 with latest beta, currently 6.9.0-RC1) died (I use ones with higher SMART errors removed form other systems, as much as anything to see if the new OS ve...

Maybe more critical in a RAID1 than a RAID5? I may have never done this in a 2-bay unit.

With disks with dissimilar speed you're limited by the speed of the slowest disk. You can mix and match drive speeds but it's obviously not the ideal configuration.
I guess this may start to have more of an impact once you start using features like SSD tiering.

I'm wondering how the warning was worded?
I'm not sure how this ties to tiering, but I could see it having a bigger performance impact in some of the more complicated RAID modes (RAID-50 and RAID-60).

From the log:
Volume: It is not recommended to mix different disk types. Current volume is
using SATA 7200 RPM drives. Please replace the disk in channel 2 (Internal)
to match the rest of the disks on volume data for best performance.Yes, this volume does have two layers. It was started with two 1TB's and now has two 2TB's. I had another 5900RPM drive, so I installed that in place of the 7200 after the first one completed resync.

That text sounds too strong for me. Something like "This disk might limit your NAS performance" would be more appropriate.
