Power disable feature on readynas 422
Does ReadyNAS 422 support HGST Ultrastar He10 HUH721010ALE604 (0F27454) with Power Disable feature?

Hi ggmasluka
Welcome to the Community!
This feature became a standard on SATA III rev 3.3, This type of drives are not tested yet for compatibility with the ReadyNAS systems and even HGST does not recommend it on untested Chassis.
This is due to the drive's possibility to not spin up when 3.3v power is being provided in Pin3. It is recommended to use HDDs without this feature for now to avoid any issues.
Here is a link to an article for HGST Power Disable feature and another post that may add up to this reply.
Hope this helps!

Hi ggmasluka
That is good to hear though it's noted that the compatibility of the drive was based using the test from the same series which in this case might be a non-PD HDD. But still if you prefer to use it, As stated it may or may not spin up on the chassis.
If you already have the drive it would be great if you can confirm the compatibility of the drive on your RN422.

Dear Marc,
I am waiting for the readynas 422 to arrive, in the meanwhile, I am trying to find out which disk model to buy, I haven't purchesed it yet. Right now this is the HGST model that is in stock with the vender.
This is a big expense, as I want to use two 10TB HDD's, more then twice the cost of the Readynas itself.
It will be futile to find out the expensive disks I have bought are not compatible.
Thank you.

I see, IMO I would go with the non-PD drives, other brands are available but of course it is still your call.
As the manufacturer stated if you don't specifically need the feature it would be better to stick with the non-PD version.
Hope this helps!
