Power LED of ReadyNAS Ultra 4 not lit anymore !?

Hello,

I am using my Ultra4 for about one and a half year now. So far everything good.
But I realized a few days ago, that the Power LED is not lit anymore !? I am talking about the LED under/in the power button.

Anyone else ever encountered this problem? Could it be Software?
I have never heard of a LED goint bad, so I would, if it is not a software problem, expect that there might be a problem with a bad solder joint.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks!

Cheers
Hossa

The LED might have failed. Does it come on if you reboot the unit?

You may wish to contact support (see the Online Submission link in my sig).
  • If it flashes on power on, during boot, its probably a software glitch. If no light even on boot, the LED has just failed. If the button still responds to push, I'd just live with it. If you try for an RMA, you will get a refurbished system, which may come with more problems.
  • Hello,

just to bring this topic to an end.
No. The LED was not flashing on power on, or any thing.
So 99% sure it is no software bug.
As I did not want to be without my beloved NAS for many days, and for also not knowing what the support would do with it, if they would do anything at all, I decided to find out myself.
So I unsrewed the whole case and finally was able to pull out the "mainboard" on its tray.
Right away I saw, that the colour of the power LED housing was a little different to all the others I couldn't find an obvious cause for "not working".
So I visually checked all connections between the "mainboard" and the "connection board". Also the solder connections. Everything looked good.
So I used an multimeter in "diode" mode to check the LEDs. And as expected. All LEDs worked except the power LED.
Just for you guys to know, you can easily check LEDs this way. Normally the current in the "diode" mode of a multimeter is just high enough to lit the LED up just a little.
So. The LED was definetily dead. Don't know how....because in the past 20 years.....in all electronic devices I repaired I NEVER had a failed LED.
But well, there is always a first time!
From here it was simple, I just replaced the LED with a new blue 3mm LED, put all parts together, powered the unit on and.....TAADAAA :D
    It's blue again! 8)

I hope, maybe someone else on the forum is this short report a help in the future!

Cheers and have a nice weekend!

PS: I am desperately awaiting the new 6.1.5 firmware for the 314 !!!
