question about HDD Freecom XS
Hello I am new here and I am interested in buying a READYNAS 102, however I am thinking of using one HDD Freecom XS (for the moment this is an external HDD but I would recover the Freecom drive) 2 ...
Use the Freecom as your backup (and yes, you do need a backup). Not all drives work with RAID, and Netgear will deny support if the drive isn't on their published hardware compatibility list.
The best option is to get a new drive for the RN102 - ideally a drive designed for NAS. I recommend the WDC "red" drives, though other posters here have had good experiences with the Seagate VN drives. Don't get the Seagate DM drives (or the Seagate archival drives).
Note that if you want RAID redundancy you'll need two drives of equal size.
