Hello RcR,
Welcome to the community!
The OS and data are saved to the disk that is inserted to the ReadyNAS chassis. Without any disks, it is useless, you will not be able to access its admin page. SSH is also disabled by default so if you want to access it via SSH, you need to get to the admin page first then enable it from there. The Telnet access is designed for engineering and L3 support.

Looks like whole problem is because of my lack of knowledge of how it works (your message made it all clear) and a fact that I should leave ReadyNas 102 in box before new drives arrive... now it is clear that no matter what I will not initiate my old drives (for now my PC wiith server software has to stay on as a teporary NAS :) ). Thanks for Your time and patience (both StephenB and JennC). Looks like my case should be fully solved on tuesday. Best regards.

Hello RcR,
You are most welcome.
By the way, the NAS formats the disks that are inserted to ReadyNAS file system format so, make sure there is no partitions on it. Make sure to back up the files saved to it too. It has to be empty and no partitions.
If the ReadyNAS fails to install with the disks, factory reset the ReadyNAS with the disks in. This will force the NAS to format the disks and install the OS from flash memory of the NAS to the disks.

In fact this is what I did with my 2 old Samsung drives - backup old data, next initial full format in linux PC to ext32, than at first try to initialize with RAIDar (destroy option) with no success overnight (around 8-10 hours). In the morning factory reset with the drives in (gave up after 4-5 hours without success).
Anyway Your informations calmed me (now I can assume the blame is on uncompatible drives) and hope all will be fine when new drives arrive on tuesday (will post info here of how it ends - just to leave knowledge to other forum users)
Regards

On tuesday I Installed 2 new 1 TB WD red drives, started with factory reset, NAS was up and working after 15 minutes (I also changed ReadyNAS 102 to new one on monday, but it wasn't working with my old hdd too). So the fault was on my old uncompatible drives and everyone who is going to buy ReadyNAS 102 should have in mind that possibly he will have to invest in new drives too. Anyway with new hdd NAS works very well up to now, configuration was fast and simple. Thanks for all support, I think the case is fully solved now.
Regards
