Ready Cloud Backup Questions
I am a newbie user and using a RN422 with 2x4TB drives for local backups only, windows PC.
I have successfully installed the ReadyCLOUD app and have used it to create some backups. My aim is to have backups be a mirror image of my PC directories, so my NAS backup is always in sync with my PC directories.
I have the following questions:
1) When I sync a backup, does it sync deleted files as well ? ie if I delete a file from a folder on my PC, will the next time it syncs delete the file on the NAS ? (I ask because it doesnt appear to). Similarly if I move a folder from one point in the directory tree to another will that move be replicated at the next sync ?
2) How do I manage the backups ? During set up I created a number of backups for sub-directories etc, which are now redundant and I want to delete them. I can see no way of doing this kind of housekeeping.
3) DO I need to schedule backups ? Or once I have got them set up will they run automatically in the background ? Can I adjust the frequency of when they run ?
Many thanks, Angus

FWIW, I wouldn't use the ReadyCloud app for this. One reason is that it won't sync all your folders, another is that sync isn't quite the same as backup.
Personally I use Acronis TrueImage on my PCs, with the backup destination set to a share on the NAS. I do image backups, and Acronis lets me control the versioning.
Acronis isn't free, but there is a free tool that you could try called FreeFileSync. That can be scheduled, and I believe it can be set up to mirror the PC folders. You can then use custom snapshots to give you the ability to roll back to older versions if you like.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for the fast response. Appreciate what you are saying, I'll look at Acronis. I take it from your response that Readycloud backup cannot (easily) do what I am wanting. I guess being software from a hardware manufacturer it is not as feature rich as a dedicated package!

My recollection is that it doesn't give you much flexibility in the folders it will back up, and also there isn't much in the way of options.
I'm sure there are folks who do use it, hopefully some of them will chime in.
