Thanks for the reply Stephen. I'd seen that thread before but it wasn't clear to me whether it applied to the 104 (I don't really have a handle on what other RN models are similar to the 104, so I always end up looking for something model-specific). Is there a page somewhere explaining that? Would perhaps stop me asking some questions...
Since you've referenced it I'll infer that what works on the Pro and Duo will work on the 104, as far as UPS is concerned.

I'm in the US and use cyberlink myself. My UPS work with pro, duo, RN102, and RN202.So I think APC will work, but I haven't used it myself. I don't work for Netgear, so I don't have any inside info.
