I believe the rack mount readynas units are much noisier than the desktop units.
There are supposed to be 2 fans that run at high speeds so what you are seeing is not normal. Have you checked the fans to see, it seems one is broken?
There is an addon that you can install that reduces the fan speeds and makes the unit less noisy, although the fan speeds may have been modified in one of the firmware releases. What firmware is running on the unit?

You bought the unit second hand which is generally not advised as the units often have problems that are difficult or impossible to fix. I would not recommend buying another second hand unit.
Whatever you do, make backups.
