Readynas 3312 Volume data is dead
Hoping someone can help on what would have caused this.
We got some alerts from our readynas stating that 4 disks had changed state from Online to Dead.
Having 4 disks die at the same time was very unlikely but not unheard of so first thing i tried was rebooting the applicance.
After a reboot the 4 failed disks were online and healthy but the volume was now dead and you could not doing anything with it other than destroy.
We had backups of the data so for a quick fix i have since deleted and recreated the volume and all is working ok but my question is should we now trust this device/disks? Does anyone know what could have caused this?
Many Thanks

Try downloading the log zip file from the logs page, and look for more detailed errors around the time you got the disk failure messages. System.log and kernel.log are good places to look. You can also see the SMART stats in disk_info.log
Are you using the scheduled maintenance capability of the NAS (look on the volume settings wheel)? FWIW, I run one each month (rotating through all four 3x a year).
One of the tasks is the disk test (which can be scheduled, or run on demand). That will run the full non-destructive test on all disks in the volume. So you can try that.
But I have had some disks that pass the non-destructive test, but fail the write zeros (full erase) in the vendor diagnostics. That would be painful to do, as you'd need to test one at a time (resyncing after each).
What drives are you using, and how old are they?
