Didn't you see the solution (posted several times now)?

No I didn't but I will give that a try. Of course, it begs the question why the system didn't automatically update it's own firmware since I have it configured to do that. Apparently "automatic update" doesn't mean what I thought it did. :) Thanks for your help!

Netgear's release process starts by posting the release notes and the binaries, allowing people who want the release immediately to manually install. After a week or so, they put it on the update servers.
So if you simply wait a bit longer, you should get the update automatically.

I hear that. I would have thought that a security issue would merit an immediate hotfix rather than slomo easy as you go... ;) I had deliberately waited a few days before posting to see if an automated update would cure it. The manual update did the trick. Thanks again!- SandsharkNov 08, 2021Sensei - Experienced User
Completely replacing the AV software is beyond what should be (and likely can be) installed as a hotfix, over which the user has no control.
FWIW, I consider AV on a NAS to be unnecesary. Everything that gets onto my NAS does so via a computer that has superior AV installed. So to say an AV update is "critical" is questionable.

I likewise have a superior AV above the NAS. I conside the NAS AV a redundant backup in case anything manages to circumvent my primary protection (or more likely if I accidently do so myself). If it's going to be there and turned on, I do expect it to work. I didn't say it was "critical", I said it was a matter of "security." "Critical" is in the eye of the beholder. I bet if you asked a company lawyer whether AV updates were "critical" you might get a different answer. ;)
