ReadyNas 426 usb backup

No power supply, directly from USB port only. Its a portable USB 2.5'' hdd, 5400rpm, very basic hdd. I dont have a USB Hub. I'll try to get log files.
USB3 is rated for 900mA. I have no way to verify the ReadyNAS is providing the specified 900mA, and LaCie clearly doesn't understand what a "spec sheet" is, because theirs has no current draw listed. That rating is the minimum to be USB3 compliant, and devices may provide more. So it could work on other devices and not the ReadyNAS if it needs more than 900mA to spin up. Do you hear it trying to spin up and failing? Unfortunately, the 426 doesn't have any side-by-side USB ports to use with a Y cable, which your User's Manual does state might be required (a hint that it may need more than 900mA). So a powered hub may be your only solution.
Did you try it on both the front and rear ports?
