ReadyNAS 542X can't install applications
I had to do a full reset of my ReadyNAS 542X and I can't install applications anymore. I've changed the DNS, set a static IP, and attempted uploading deb files. Can anyone advise me on next steps?

Hi I have one RN314 and 2 RN316 (in different locations) - none of them can install apps (I haven't tried to for a while). I tried uTorrent, iDrive, Drupal - but they all crash the UI and I have to log on again.
I installed the new firmware 6.10.9 on one of them to test - but the same issue happens.
I have not reinstalled OS as I dont want to chance losing an important app I use (Zero Tier One).
Help appreciated - if anyone suggests SSH - I have never used it, so need really idiot-proof instructions.....
Thanks in advance.

There are patches needed for most installations to work, due to the archival/deprecation of Debian 8 ("Jessie").
Post 37 in the attached thread has the two files you need.
Post 4 in this thread gives you some instructions on how to install these patches w/o needing to know ssh commands:

Actually, I believe you still have to issue the apt-get update command from SSH.

Thanks - how do I do this? Im far from an expert with SSH....

You go to SSH and issue that command. If you are on Windows, you can go to SSH (assuming you've enabled it on the NAS) with ssh root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx from a command prompt where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address for your NAS. The login password is the same as your admin password for the NAS.
