From Netgear's point of view, they have certified all the drives on the HCL (with the unfortunate misstep with the drives you bought). All they can suggest is that you pick another drive on the HCL - what else do you expect them to tell you?

I am guessing that you have an NV+ v1. The Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI is on the v1 HCL and is similar in price to the ST2000DL003 [in the US anyway], so that is an option. Hitachi Ultrastars are very expensive here, but the 7K3000 are only $20 more then the Seagates you returned.
You could also buy one less drive for now, to keep your cash outlay lower. One benefit of XRAID is that you don't have to buy the drives all at once.
