ReadyNAS DFS
Dear readers,
had a quick look and ReadyNAS and there doesn't seem to be a DFS type solution available. My scenario is as follows:
Two offices - one in New Zealand and the other in the UK. No Microsoft as only using Macs. Looking at having a ReadyNAS both ends and and using a solution similiar to Microsft DFS. The goal is to do an initial sync and then have the NAS devices sync constantly (block level) via VPN. ReadyNAS replcation is oneway but can Vault possibly work in this scenario?
Possibly have a storage location in the cloud (Vault) which is the central storage and syncs any changes both ways from each NAS, thus ensuring both locations have the latest file versions.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

- JohnnyEgnyteAspirantHi Jack,
The solution you are looking for is: Egnyte + ReadyNAS.
Egnyte is a Cloud File Server that enables bi-directional file synchronization between multiple ReadyNAS devices and the cloud. Aside from providing DFS like functionality at a fraction of the cost, the Egnyte also provides numerous additional benefits - a redundant copy of data in the cloud, file sharing with external parties, version management, etc. Files can also be accessed with a variety of iOS and Android based smartphones and tablets.
Egnyte is a great way for multiple offices to automatically sync files for collaboration. Combined with the ReadyNAS, it's a much more cost effective alternative to DFS. We already have numerous customers that use Egnyte + Readynas in the manner you outlined.
Let me know if you have any questions, I'm the Egnyte rep for the NETGEAR community, I can assist you with any technical or support questions you might have.
~Johnny
