Ok. So that is a sparc platform, which we call a Duo v1 here. The v2 means it is hardware revision 2 (of the Duo v1). It is confusing, Netgear could have done a better job on the branding and platform identification.
12V~5A is the correct spec for the power adapter.
While it could be the adapter, I am thinking it is more likely to be a dead-on-arrival disk. If you have a spare disk available (2 TB or less) you could try that.

OK well I tested the new HD in my PC and it is indeed dead. Pc was acting the same as the ReadyNas, it wouldn't poewer up with it in. So I will be sending that back to Amazon for a replacement. I actually put my PC's HD in the nas and it seems to work fine, it powered up and an led light cam on showing which disk was in. However..... I think readynas must of done some formatting when it was installed because when I put it back into my PC.. I could no longer boot into Windows.. so I have had to reinstall windows again. Not to worry as I'm happy that I know what the issue was.
So while on the subject of HD's whats the maximum size they can handle? I will alos be swapping out the fans as they sound like jet engines taking off when they start up.I couldn't have that noise whiring away all day.

The Duos are old models (Netgear stopped shipping them in 2011). If you use Windows 10, you will need to install the SMB 1.0 client in order to be access file network shares on the NAS.

2 TB.

They only sound like that when the system is starting up. Once it boots off the disks the fans quiet down. Still, when the fans turn on they are audible.

Yes. It formats the disk, installs linux on a small (2 GB) partition, and creates a data volume that uses the rest of the disk (formatted as ext).
