I had the same problem..but it worked when I had the nas shutdown when the battery reaches 75% instead of 90%. Then I fully charged the UPS and retested...
For some reason when i had it set to shutdown at 90% the nas never did get the message or maybe the nas sensed the UPS as being already below 90 and disregarded the shutdown...Either way I leave it set to shutdown when the battery gets to 75% and have not had issues since...
