ReadyNAS NV+ hangs when trying to go to sleep

My old and trusty backup NV+ has recently developed the following symptom:

when trying to go to sleep after 30min of inactivity, it displays that attempt in it's local status display, but hangs. You can not do anything anymore with it, only cutting the power chord brings it back to live. It will then perform a volume scan and a resync, so it is busy for a few hours.

This might indicate, i think, a pending hard drive failure, but looking through all the logs, i see nothing mentioned. Performing a volume scan also shows everything is fine.

Drives are 4x WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 1862 GB with no ATA errors.

ANy hint on how to proceed to identify this?

Frank

Power down, connect disks to SATA port in PC and check using WD Lifeguard Diagnostics
  • I am a Mac Guy. WD does not believe in the existence of macs. Do you happen to know if that piece of windows software work inside a ParallelsVM? Probably not.

    That is a problem.

What are the SMART+ stats for the disks under Status > Health in Frontview (please omit the serial numbers for the drives).
