ReadyNAS NV+ version 1 stuck on boot screen
Hello, love my ReadyNas NV+ version 1 for many many years. This morning it is stuck on boot. Running Xraid and memory maxed out. Unit boots up fine and the LCD display on the unit shows: ...

Yes speed is one thing, but really I like fiddling with technology and the NAS is one of those areas I like. I use it for music delivery to wifi speakers and file/photo central storage. In reality, no one in my family is complaining about speed, but it's a convenient excuse :smileywink:.

What paper-clip option did you chose? One is destructive.
The one that you probably should try is "skip volume check" - page 23 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/Duov1_NV+v1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf
Did you check the activity light on the NIC interface?

Just did memory test all OK there.

I am thinking that the NIC has failed. I don't believe that is repairable.
If you have an unformatted scratch disk, you can power down, remove the current ones (labeling by slot), and install the scratch/power up.
That should do a factory install onto the scratch. If you can't reach that either, then I think that confirms the failed NIC.

Another great idea from you. I do have a scratch disk handy as my cold spare.
I will take out all of the data drives and number them by slot. Then when I put in the scratch drive do I need to do a full wipe to factory first on the NAS or does it matter? If so do I use the paperclip long hold method or the front power button method?
Thanks!

Hello atlanta30328,
As mentioned by StephenB, possible NIC has failed. Run RAIDar while NAS is connected to the network or even straight to the computer. RAIDar should see it with or without any disks.
Now, when you have a scratch disk that has no important data inserted to the NAS and no other disks inserted, you may factory reset the NAS with this scratch disk inserted to allow the NAS format the disk. The idea here is to check if the scratch disk will work with the chassis, because if it does then the chassis is fine. Factory reset is from the boot menu of the NAS.

Hi Stephen and gang,
I found a NetGear ReadyNas NV+ RND4000-100NAS. Would the 4 disks from my ReadNas NV+ RND4210-100NAS work on that unit? (RND 4400 vs RND4210). I think that would make them box v1 boxes.
Next question, if I buy an empty ReadyNas which is the same version do I just put in the disks and boot it up or should I restore my config file before putting int the drives? I have a fairly recent config file with my shares and users.
Thanks again!

Yes. the 4210 model is a 4000 that shipped with one 2 TB drive preinstalled.

You can't install the config w/o drives, because the config is only saved on the drives.
It is wise to install a scratch disk on the replacement NAS first, and manually install the same firmware version you were running before. Then powerdown, install the old drives in the proper slots, and power up.
