Will have to wait and see. Don't expect a major samba update for Sparc, but should come to x86 (e.g. ReadyNAS Pro) and ARM. When they add it they will have to consider how it effects other things on the ReadyNAS and do extensive testing to ensure a smooth upgrade.szlevi wrote: Basic problem is that this ReadyNAS project is run by amateurs, period.
Now somehow I don't think amateurs would successfully develop devices that have been sold since 2004.szlevi wrote:
OS is full of bugs
The compatibility issue with community add-ons, I'd hardly call full of bugs. Also the 4.2.20 beta is a beta. It's not unexpected for a beta release to have some problems.szlevi wrote:
no decent QA whatsoever
Overlooking a bug affecting compatibility with non-NetGear add-ons does not indicate "no decent QA". It's a minor bug (data remains intact) and there's a simple fix. NetGear quickly released a beta firmware address the issue and downgrading the firmware from 4.2.19 is another alternative. - luriumAspirantSadly the new beta ( RAIDiator 4.2.20-T32 ) still uses samba 2.5.
Please read this netgear support and upgrade samba to 2.6, and / or make available package to install 2.6.
