ReadyNAS Pro Fan is very noisy

Past tne noisy fan issue I haven't had any big problems, my main problem is the segate 1.5tb drives I'm using. 2 from 6 have failed.... The Pro hasn't had any problems with handling the loss of the drives (one at a time). Also I see the CPU fan reporting 12k RPM occasionally, clearly a bug as I suspect my ears would blead with the noise from this speed.
In retrospect I should have probably made my own and made a fanless box running OpenFiller or FreeNAS to give me a more flexible platform with a more open Linux build as the base.
