ReadyNAS Pro (RNDP4xxx) Memory...

Anyone have any recommendations on compatible memory for a ReadyNAS Pro Series (RNDP4410)?

I have a client that needs to upgrade the memory in their ReadyNAS to 4GB to accommodate a large number of files they're sycning via the Egnyte OLC. (and another 1 or 2 clients needing to upgrade the memory in their ReadyNAS units soon too)

I've searched through these forums, but most of the info seemed old or wasn't for the RNDP4xxx series.

I can't believe memory upgrades are this difficult - I understand Netgear can't test ALL memory for compatiblity, but NONE? It'd be nice if there was even an unofficial or community recommend list somewhere vs. trying to hunt through the forums. If it were my ReadyNAS, I wouldn't be afraid to try out some different memory to find one that works, but I'm not willing to take that risk with a customer's data.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Randy

  • These are the forums... is there an actual list? Searching through forum posts is not a list.

I have seen third-party addons that do demain more RAM, but it is not an official supported memory from the hardware manufacture.
There are cases where memory may cause issues (in some conditions) and Netgear can ask to replace the upgraded RAM with the stock RAM before continuing troubleshooting.

"NETGEAR warranty will continue after replacing/upgrading your memory module."

  • Thank you, I've read & understood all that as well...

All I could find listed in the technical specs of the the hardware manual (http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ ... July11.pdf) for the RNDP4xxx is that it comes with 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM RAM. Anyone know what speed - 667 or 800? Does it matter? Any particular brands to stay away from?

Also, I've never had to take one of these apart - is the memory slot easily accessible? Any other potential "gotchas" I should be aware of?

    TIA

  • rclark - I usually recommend that anyone increasing their memory, be it in a PC or NAS (although PC's are less picky about their memory) to remove the stock memory, get the mfg, model and specs off the module and match it as to at lest the speed and timing, the mfg if possible and the same memory series is even better.

Also, when replacing the memory on a ReadyNAS, be sure to run the memory test from the boot menu several times.
