With the cable removed, can you see the internal connector move when you push on it with something? If so, it's likely broken solder joints at the connector to board interface.

It appears to be the cable. It is very very hard to pull out. It doesn't slip out easily.

Well, that's the more easily fixed side. When you go to buy a replacment, be aware that not all manufacturers use the same pin-out for the 4-pin DIN. Make sure you look at the pin diagram or buy one listed as for a ReadyNAS or Synology (which uses the same pin-out).
