Readynas RND-6a doesn't boot
I got this NAS used and so am unsure as to how it works. The model is Readynas rnd-6a. When I power it on the fans spin up and "ReadyNAS" displays on the LCD but that is all. I assume it doesn't ...

For those who might be asking similar questions one day. There was no solution. Unfortunately, such an issue is in "buy a new NAS" territory.

No luck getting to the boot menu either unfortunately… is there a way to upgrade the firmware bypassing the boot menu I wonder?

Yes: RAIDiator-4-2-USB-Recovery-Tool. While it may not work, it shouldn't hurt. If this fails, the next step would be to install a VGA port (there is a header on the motherboard for that) and see what's happening during boot. But at some point, you want to decide just how much effort and cost it's worth to you.
But did you try RAIDar? It may behave like that if you have a corrupted VPD file. RAIDar will find it, and display garbage for the part and/or serial number when that's the case.

Awesome I'll give that a try. I'll head to my local tech store today and get a cable.
I don't mind spending time and money to try and fix the device, I don't really have to funds to buy a new one outright.
I have tried RAIDar (although an older version because I wasn't sure about compatibility) . RAIDar just says it can't find any devices. Doesn't show up on my router either.

What's on the motherboard is just a header, you need an IDC to DB15 cable, then a standard VGD cable. The cable is the same as many old multi-port VGA cards used for the second port, so they might have a used one stuck away somewhere. But more likely you'll have to find one online. This has good pictures of what you need, and was also my source when I needed a couphttps://www.pccables.com/Products/VGA-Port-HD15F-Adapter-to-IDC16-12-Inch?srsltid=AfmBOoqqfeycxkKFF4-zdjQBUx3XfOjR_2mhZp2VQ6rc_Re1JtjGjUaA-sU&gQT=1le:

No display output when connected to the onboard header. I'm at a bit of a loss for what to try from here.
