ReadyNAS RND4000 - compatable replacement devices
Hi, My ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 unit recently died, most likely the power supply blew according to my repair guy. I found a second hand unit for a decent price but it is the ReadyNAS RND4000 (not ver...

No backup.
I read the guide and it's a little tricky to workout, as according to the pictures of the back, mine is closest to the NV+ v1. However my one has a little power switch right next to the kettle socket in the center of the bottom pane.
So not sure where this falls?
It was purchased in April 2012.
The one on Ebay I'm interested in, matches the NV+ v1 back diagram (on the mentioned link) perfectly. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221886921549
The power supply blew when our electricity was off the other day and it came back on and obviously surged. I heard it blow.
Thanks for nothing surge protector plugs... :(
I am happy to do option 2, otherwise find exactly the same machine and see if it would work.
I am needing a new unit anyways as mine is getting rusted as you can see in the image...

Ok , I thought you had already bought the one on eBay.
Do you know what firmware was on the broken device? Is it silver?
Did you buy it new in 2012? If so then it is not likely to be among the units eligible for a PSU replacement.
There is one other option I did not mention and that is to buy a new model readynas and ask Netgear support to help you migrate the data across. They may charge you a fee for this and you would need their help.
That rust is unusual. Has the unit been unused and stored for some of its life? Where is it located?

If you are the original purchaser of the ReadyNAS, then I would begin by contacting Netgear Support even if the NAS is out of warranty. They might be able to sell you a PSU inexpensively, and they can confirm warranty status/eligibility for free replacement. A unit purchased new in 2012 could well be covered.
I don't think all regions will sell PSUs, it might depend on local spare inventory. But it is worth a try.
As far as ebay units - the older nv is still compatible with your disks (assuming you do have a v1 platform). The v3 label on the back suggests that you do, since i don't believe the NV+ v2 platform had 3 hardware revisions. ebay is hit-or-miss, there are certainly people here who purchased used units and then found they were broken.

Yes, it's silver.
Not sure what firmware I was on, as I can't boot obviously.
I'm guessing you're from SA, so you'll understand when I say I live in Cape Town, near the sea, and the wind pumps here!
Its been indoors, near my computer since 2013, and thats the rust that comes indoors. It's crazy!
I am going to contact support and see what they say or recommend.

Ok, I understand. I lived there too. The sea air gets to everything

I purchased my NV+ in 2010, and at that time it had a 5-year warranty. The power supply went a few months ago, and they sent me a new one at no charge (3 months before the warranty expired).
I don't think the warranty was reduced after that, so if you are the original purchaser Netgear should take care of it. But I am US based, and the warranty terms might be geographically tailored.

We have a 3 year warranty for some units. There should be quite few units left with a current 5 year warranty.
