ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus.... 18TB -> 24TB
Hi, Currently using 6x3TB Seagate 3TB ST3000DM001 drives on a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus. Not a very good drive though imo, had already 2 bad ones, curiously both were in slot No.2 of the NAS... wondered...

Well, the question is what happens when you want to go with 6x6TB drives sometime.
With xraid2 on 4.2.x firmware you will need to do another factory reset, and reload all your data from backup.
With xraid2 on OS6 you can simply expand.
I think that with flexraid on 4.2.x you can first add the disks (one at a time, resyncing), and then can create a D volume that uses the extra space. I haven't tried that though, since when I use flexraid myself I am always choosing jbod (no raid protection at all).
So, with 4.2.x firmware I see no benefit for you to continue using xraid2, since you can't expand anyway. Choosing flexraid does no harm, and might help future expansion. It also preserves your ability to use netgear support.
OS6 fully solves the expansion problem, but of course you do lose support.
BTW, do you know when your warranty runs out?
