ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus disconnects from network soon after booting.
Some weeks after upgrading to 6.10.7 firmware my ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus now disconnects within minutes after booting up. It makes it very difficult to administer and seemingly the only choice is to do...

The amount of RAM is what was shipped. From the specs it's as you guessed 1GB.
However, the ReadyNAS's partner is a Business Pro Edition with 1GB which doesn't exhibit the same issue and is considerably more busy.
Still, I recommend upgrading the RAM to at least 2 GB as the next step. It's inexpensive and easy to do.

When you say it disconnects form the network, are the network LEDs still active and it's just not responding to even a ping, or are the LEDs out? Are you also experiencing any issues turning the unit on and off via the button?
How much memory is in your NAS? If it's still the original 1GB, you may be running out of memory. Since OS6.10.0, we have been recommending that those migrating legacy machines upgrade to at least 2GB, which is the minimum any Intel and OS6 based ReadyNAS has ever shipped with. While Netgear is watching memory use on the ARM units, which has resulted in removing some functions form units with minimal memory, they do not appear to be doing so with Intel based units, at least below the 2GB level,

Thanks SandShark,
The Network LED link LED remains on, Network Switch reports that it's still connected at 1000M.
No response to a ping but funnily enough the yellow activity light flickers a lot.
How did you guess that front panel power button will only detect hard cold turn offs?
The normal single click doesn't turn on the front panel display on after the NAS has stopped responding.

Thanks StephenB!
Do you know where I can get some compatible & reliable ones at a reasonable price in Australia these days?
EBay offers lots cheap but I have no idea how good they'll be.
Cheers!

Thanks to StephenB and SurfShark,
I recycled a 2GB DIMM from my dead 12 year old Intel Workstation.
As not to have contending RAM timings I removed the original 1GB DIMM.
I popped it, waited for the pregnant pause and and Voila! It powered up with no more reboots on 10.6.7 (yet).
It's mem_info.log shows that the system uses about 1.4GB of the 2GB installed.
Upon subsequent checking of the Business Pro 6 mem_info.log - I had forgotten I installed 3GB of RAM into it when I upgraded it.

The Ethernet and power-on circuits are both powered by the +5VSB (5 volts standby) power, a separate voltage from the PSU that's always on so it will support powering on, including via WoL. Because it's always on, it's often the first thing in the supply to fail, and your problem with the button and flickering LED are indications that may be your problem.
The supply is a standard SFX supply except that the cable is longer. Current ones also typically don't have the three 4-pin Molex connectors the original does. So it's easy to get a replacement, and it's not a terribly difficult thing to swap out. You can find supplies already modified for a ReadyNAS on eBay, or you can buy a standard SFX supply, a 6-inch ATX connector extender, and either 4-pin Molex splitter or a SATA to 4-pin adapter, depending on what connectors the supply has. Although the original is 300W, I recommend at least a 400W replacement because the +12V capability of the original is more than most 300W supplies deliver, and that's what spins up the drives.

Thanks SurfShark,
I'm pretty sure the PSU in the Ultra 6 Plus is fine but will keep that consideration in mind. I had to replace the PSU in my Business Pro 6 when it died a few years ago. The replacement works like a charm.
