Wait for the resync to complete, then reboot. Wait a bit, and if you see no expansion beginning, then reboot again. BTW, hovering your mouse over the disk icon on the home page will give you some additional status (as will RAIDar).
Normally the v1's do need a reboot to initiate the vertical expansion step. Usually they prompt for it, but not always.
If this still fails, you can of course back up the data, do a factory reset, reconfigure the NAS, and then restore the data from the backup. Brute force, but there are sometimes performance benefits if you start with a clean slate.

Is the ForceExpansion.bin add-on no longer compatible with the latest OS version for the V1's? I would think that would be a step before going to a factory default. I had to use that many moons ago. I looked at it with a hex editor and it has nothing in the header about archetecture or version compatibility.

I don't think I knew about that add-on - if I had I'd forgotten it.
But that is worth a try if the reboot doesn't work. You should make sure you have a backup before you install it. http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/4.00/ForceExpansion_1.0.bin

Hello,
My old ReadyNAS Duo v1 is running firmware RAIDiator 4.1.16 [1.00a043] with 2X 2TB Barracuda "ST2000DM001" drives. No problems with the drives. However, one of them crushed yesterday.
I checked the compatibility list and noticed there was no mention of the newest model 2TB Barracuda "ST2000DM006" as a compatible HDD.
Am I looking at the wrong compatibility list?
I noticed the original post mentioned the ST2000DM006 as a compatible replacement for the ReadyNAS Duo but I can't find that model listed on the compatibility list. Unless I'm getting old ;-)
