If the Duo itself had failed, yes you could buy a new Duo (or NV+) and install the disks (best to keep the disk in the same relative slot) and simply power up and it would come right up with the configuration and data intact.
However, I do not think it is a problem with the Duo.
If you have a spare disk, power down the Duo, remove the two disks (noting the slot in which each drive had been) and then remove one from the tray, install the spare drive and power up the Duo. If the Duo comes right up and establishes a new one disk array, you know your Duo is fine. Unfortunately, most problems are with a disk, not the NAS.
Your situation is complicated by the fact you are using non approved disks.
