RedyNAS 214 initial setup problem
I got a ReadyNas 214 for my birthday yesterday. Please bear with me as it's my first NAS device, but I do have a complete home network that I wired myself and am well versed enough to have multiple ...

You do have 90 day phone support for installation. I think you should use it - the LCD gooblegook suggests something might be wrong with your hardware.
Go to my.netgear.com and register the unit. Then you should be able to contact support from there.

Those particular drives have a high failure rate in RAID arrays. If you can still exchange the new ones, I'd suggest either 3 TB Seagate IronWolf or 3 TB WDC Red drives. Both are intended for NAS, and posters here seem happy with both of them. You can mix/match - so you can leave the older DM drive in the array.

I just registered it and am going to call support.
This morning nothing had changed so I pulled all the drives and rebooted it and after about 1 minute the display changed to "tetededdddd" so we shall see what support says, but I'm betting you are right that there is something not happy in the hardware.
I'll update after I get through to them.
Thanks for the reccomendation!

I just got off the phone with "Jello" @ support who made major progress and was very helpful.
Hopefully this information will help someone else as the NAS is now up and running. After the resynching of my drives finishes I'll power cycle the unit to see if everything is 100% okay or not.
My main computer could not be remotely accessed by him via (http://gotoassist.com/ph/gearhead) so I changed over to another computer on my network, and it could not see the NAS device.
I unplugged the NAS from where it was and plugged it into the same HUB that I was accessing the computer from and it was able to find it. We had to update Java, uninstall the old versions of Java, and insall Raidar 6.2 for Windows from http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20684/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDc4MTg4NzMyL3NpZC93dDZNdksybg%3D%3D#raidar?cid=wmt_netgear_organic
Raidar was then able to detect the NAS, but it had a dirty primary drive so we reformatted it.
The 214 was running an old firmware of 5.4.?? even though the outside of my box clearly has 6.4.1 stamped on the stickers. So it updated from 5.4 to 5.5, then it had to update again from 5.5 to 6.0, and finaly from 6.0 to 6.6.0.
We configured the iCloud settings, and it is now resynching the 4x3TB drives.
(I will buy better hard drives if these fail since I unfortunately can't return them.)
The device is only 1.7% done resynching and it's been about 30 minutes so I anticipate I won't know the final outcome for at least another, oh, day. ;-)
I'll update y'all if the LCD starts working right or not, but my guess is it won't be, as it flickers a lot and has odd display items right under the name I gave the NAS, where I would think there should be an IP address it shows "192.Vew}ngddete->" and "192.tle|dddddddd"

It must have been 6.x.x.. All RN214 run OS 6.

The Drive resynch took about 16 hours, and now the power button works properly. but Plex still does not operate, nor does the LCD display look correct. My wife has convinced me that I probably should take it back to the store today and return it.
Thought I would post the hyperlink to the new thread here in case people wanted to see the followup to this thread of the additional problems.
Here's that missing Screenshot (I spliced two together) of the messed up IP Address on the LCD Display and "GlegodVEMDev" showing the bottom line of the LCD always has wierd stuff on it:
