    Hi,

I received an email recently stating that the ReadyNAS ultra 4 is end-of-life.

What are the models that are replacing the Ultra 4 and can I buy them and swap out the disks off the Ultra 4 onto them without losing any data?

    Thanks!

First, don't over-react.  Yes there will be no more firmware releases.  But if you are ok with the current NAS features and performance, that might not matter to you.  I have no plans to retire my pro-6 (and I am still running my NV+ v1 and duo v1, which have been EOL for a while now).  Honestly, I have to wonder if the timing on this email is partly to generate Q4 sales.

The replacement for the ultra 4 is the RN314.  An RN214 gives about the same performance for file sharing, so its worth looking at too.  The RN314 has better support as this comes with lifetime CHAT support.

Unfortunately you can't migrate the disks.  A better strategy is to get new disks for the new NAS, and use the ultra for backup (as long as it lasts).
