Replacing a fried NV & saving the data
I have a first generation (5 yrs old) ReadyNAS NV w/4 1TB drives in it—running X-Raid1 in a Raid5 configuration. It fried. Just fully failed with the smell of burnt motherboard. Questions: 1....

Do you mean burnt PSU (power supply unit)?

If so, depending on what region you are in you may qualify for a free replacement PSU.
1. Yes, provided it's another Sparc ReadyNAS (e.g. NV+ v1 - RND4000-100) you can migrate the disks across. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another
2. No the RAID format is different so you cannot migrate the disks across to an x86 or ARM NAS.
