Replacing a fried NV & saving the data

Yes, a completely different file system. Have you determined if it is the PSU? (You can take off the side plates and remove the upper rear panel with the large fan and then visually inspect the PSU without removing it. If it is the PSU and you have a burned smell, there are probably several bulged and burned capacitors.
