RN102 turns on by itself

Hi all, first post so go easy on me please :)

Had the RN102 for over 10 years, on latest firmware (16.10.10)
Since it now EOL and not being supported, I have retired it and it is mothballed since end 2024.
So its shut down, and stays turned off (plugged into power, and network cable connected) and I just boot it up when I want something (it has backups of backups and some old stuff)

HOWEVER, it seems to take it upon itself to start up occasionally (may be after 2 weeks.. or a month,  no set period that I can see as yet)

I have checked, WOL is not ticked, no power settings to turn itself on, I can see no reason for it wake.
I have checked the logs and it says something like "Background process has started" as the first entry when it has started but I dont know if that is the cause.. of just a consequence of starting up.
Anyone  have any idea whats going on here?

Fire away if you have questions... I can add screen shots of exact messages etc if needed.

Thanks in advance

FYI, just ran across a 2015 discussion thread that reports this same issue.

      Thanks..
Looks like no one has come up with and explanation or solution.
Its not the end of the world.. I can live with it, if it really becomes a pain, I will not leave it plugged in to power and only connect power when I need it.

Quick Update... exactly 1 month after it shut down (to the hour/min) it turned itself back on again.
So wondering if it comes on to check for updates or something
So went to settings, there were only two options set re updates..
one was for update notifications... and one for hotfix updates..
So I turned both off... saved.. and have now shut down again..
Lets see if it turns on again in a months time now.

A small glitch in the internal 3.3VSB voltage could cause something like that, but it would be random.  If it seems to be on some sort of schedule (same time frame every month or every X days), then it's likely something in the BIOS that's undocumented.

FWIW, I think that fits the symptoms I've seen.

My other NAS (x86 and arm) are on power schedules, so it's not something I could easily sort out.

Odd, but my own RN102 does the same thing.  Mine does have WoL ticked, but I don't think that is what is waking it up.  I just turn it off when I notice it is on again.

I do have a maintenance schedule set up in the volume settings wheel, so it is possible the NAS is waking up to do the maintenance.  Or it might be a bug.

Did you check for a maintenance schedule (easily overlooked).

Dont think I do, but just checked.. and no... no scheduled tasks..

While I had it started.. here are logs (I noticed it today.. but guess it turned itself on on the 28th Jul.. exactly a month after I shut it down last.. to within minutes....may be a clue?)

It's been a while since I tracked it, but I think once a month is what I saw as well.  Hard to be sure, as I do turn it on manually from time to time for testing.
