RN214 not recognizing new drive

Hi, I have a readynas RN214. I currently have 2 4TB setup with RAID1 config. Few months ago the drive on Bay 2 died and I replaced it with a new drive. I recall i didnt need to do anything, just swap out the defective one and put in the new one and it auto syncs.

Now the drive in Bay 1 died (the NAS sees there's a drive on bay 1, but says degraded). I bought a new drive (Western Digital Red plus 4tb). I swapped out the old one (which the nas sees that it's been removed). but when I put in the new one, it doesnt recognize/see it. I tried Bay 3 as well, same thing - as in the NAS doesnt see the new drive.

What am i doing wrong? Is the new drive also defective?

If the drive doesn't show up at all on the volume page, then it likely is defective.  You can check it by connecting it to a Windows PC (SATA or a USB adapter/dock) and using WD's dashboard utility.

Or just exchange it with the seller.
