RN214 replacement tray
Sorry for bringing up a small issue, but I'm trying to find out how I can go about ordering or replacing a disk tray for the RN214D42-100NES NAS system. Had my trays stacked on the table while repla...

There is a plastic insert that can be removed (then you'd attach the disk using screws through the bottom of the tray). But I'm not sure if it's the insert that's damaged, or something else.

I'll have to do it when I get home. Traveling now and not going to be home till next week. Been looking for a replacement tray for over a week now, but didn't think to take a picture of the damaged one. But the damage was on the bottom of the rear portion facing out where the plastic of the lock mechnism met the metal of the tray. When inserted which I had to pay attention to make sure the drive didn't tilt to lock it into the drive connector and the tray starts moving slightly when the hard drive spins up.

Not sure of the solution but will try when I get home. Accidently hit the solution when I was trying to navigate on my phone. If I remember right, the plastic was attached to the metal by clips or screws, but not too sure. But will check when I get home on monday. My question is, will it still stay secured against the vibrations of the hard drive when spinning?

Well, again it depends on what broke - which I'm having trouble visualizing from your description.
There is a plastic insert that surrounds the drive, which detaches from the front of the tray when you remove or or insert a drive. See the illustration page 163 here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf
That part can just removed altogether - and you then attach the drive to the bottom of the NAS with the screws that came with your NAS.
If you've lost those screws, you need screws with a 6-32 thread 3/16" long with a countersunk flat head. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/MACHINE-SCREW-PHILIPS-Fully-Threaded/dp/B01N23Y2MR (though the picture is misleading, the screws are much shorter). 1/4 inch might also work.

The plastic piece is part of the assembly for the locking mechnism that keeps the tray secured. When the tray is inserted, the hard drive/tray locks into the connectors in the back and the plastic piece secures it in the front. The corner that broke, the tray and hard drive still locks into the back connectors and the front still locks in place but when the drive is activated and spinning, the drive itself moves as it isn't fully secured in place (hard to picture) and the drive basically jiggles in it's slot. Not major, but enough that I worry that it is going to cause issues with the drive as well as the connectors in back that it anchors to. Wish I had thought of taking photos. The tray guides still slid properly in the tracks, but the loss of the corner seems to be enough that the drive doesn't fully stay secured when operating.
