RN516 and printing to an HP LaserJet 4P.
Using ReadyNAS 516 with OS Vers 6.2.2 and wish to print from the NAS to an old printer HP LaserJet 4p.
The NAS box only uses USB connections, and the LJ 4P has either Centronics or RS232C connections.
Has anybody used an 'USB to Centronics' OR an 'USB to RS232' cable and got it to work?
Please do NOT reply saying the LJ 4P is 'old hat'. It is still the best quality and reliable B/W printer I have ever had.
Yes I know all modern printers are USB ... so what. I am very reluctant to pay out money to get something which is not as good as the current 'old' printer.
It just sits there and prints when required ... and prints ... and prints.
Thanks in advance for your help!

No it has come up before. Of course many (not all) NAS owners also have networked printers.BaJohn wrote: Am I the first person to 'want' a printing facility that has mentioned this in the forum? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredUSB to RS232 adds additional complexity. Even if USB printing support was added to the firmware it's doubtful that support for USB to RS232 would be added. As there are community apps available to do printing such as CUPS and AirPrint, it would be best to see if either of those can do what you want.
- BaJohnVirtuoso..... and here we are 2 weeks later. It broke my heart but my beloved HP Laser Jet 4P is at the dump, along with the several Kg of Large floor standing Pentium 3 (circa 1999 at cost of £3K), along with the USB to RS232 cable and other minor bits and pieces.
I have more room in my 'garage room' and a new mono HP LaserJet (wireless and double sided).
So the moral of the story is "stand back and see the broader picture" as I have spent hours trying to get the old equipment to work to no avail, and what were we talking about £200 tops.
